Gas Saving Tips

Gas costing you an arm and Leg?

With the National Average for gas over $3(nearly $3.50 here in Californa) gas has become expensive. I mean really really expensive. For some us, it is almost cost more in gas to go work than we make at our jobs. So, what can be done? How can we save more at the pump and give some relief to our wallets. Here are a few tips:

1) Drive Sensible and efficiently

Agressive driving including speeding, rapid acceleration, and braking wastes gas. Yes, I know observing speed limits is not always the easiest thing to do, but every 5mph over 60mph is like paying an extra 20 cents per gallon for gas. You are also less likely to die in auto accident as well. Removing excess weight, using overdrive gears, and using cruise control also can help you conserve more gas.

2) Keep Your Car Tuned and in Shape

A badly tuned engine can cut your fuel efficently by about 4%. Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40%. Also make sure your tires are properly inflated, check and replace air filters, and use the recommended motor oil for you car.

3) Do not drive if you do not have to

If the corner store is only 4 block away then do you really have to drive there? Besides walking is great exercise. This may also be a great opportunity for you to try out the public transportation in your town. If that does not work for you then maybe it's time to start up that car pool at work.

4) Use the Correct Gas

Check the auto manual to see what gas is recommended for your car. Don't buy Premium Gas if you don't need it. Doing so is just a waste of money.

5)Get a more fuel efficient Car.

Do you really need that 15 passenger SUV? Getting a more fuel efficient vehicle could save you potential hundreds of dollars annually. By the way if you are looking for a new vehicle, click the link for Car Quotes above. (sorry shameless plug)
